Tim Doyle: These days it's important to save money where you can. Research in the Consumer Electronics Association indicates 60% of consumers are concerned about their electricity bill.

One way to save money is to monitor usage of your electronics products. It's simple, easy to do and can save you a bunch of money. Measure the usage of your electronics products at sites such as greenergadgets.

org. Consumer electronics products can account for as much as 15% of the home energy's usage.

Studies have shown the more you understand about your energy usage, the more apt you're to use less and save. Home energy used monitors can lead to tremendous savings, so check with your local utility on that. It's also important to be in friendship with your devices. So please make sure to unplug those devices when you're not using them, or plug them into a new eco-friendly power strip.

Many devices take power even if switched off. So unplugging them is your best bet. With more advanced devices like a computer, check the power setting and make sure they are using the most energy efficient setting. Set the monitor turn off after several minutes of inactivity. Screensavers don't reduce energy usage.

So by following these tips, you can find out how much energy you're using and how to be more efficient with your devices.
