Brian Alden: Ready to start your search for a new job? Well, it's time to dust off that old resume and make it shine. Remember, your resume is the first impression you give to a prospective employer. First, make sure your resume is up-to-date with your most recent accomplishments. Tailor it to each position you're applying for, so it highlights your most relevant experience. Make sure you quantify your achievements as well, so it's clear to a prospective employer exactly how you benefited previous company. For example, served as the direct report for 100 account managers or spearheaded the company's green initiative which resulted in an annual savings of $100,000. It's also important to list specific actions that let your quantifiable achievements, such as integrated papers accounting system, reducing cost and overhead. Pay attention to the details. It's the little things that can make or break your chance of getting an interview. Double-check your spelling and punctuation, try and keep your resume under two pages, and only one page if you're new to the job market and have a limited work experience. And it's always a great idea to have someone else read over your resume. A fresh set of eyes can pick up all mistakes that you might have overlooked. Next, all you have to do is get your resume out there. Check out company websites and make the most of the sites like job.
com so you can land your dream job.
