Sherry Tyra: Organizing is at the top of everyone's home to do list, but organizing an entire home can often be daunting and overwhelming. No worries! Organizing is easy if we start small and take at one task at a time.
A dry erase calendar mounted on the wall or refrigerator will help you keep track of family commitments. A chalkboard in the kitchen is another great way for family members to leave messages for each other. Giving everyday items their own spot helps keep things organized. You can use a decorative basket to hold spare keys or is a place to set down the daily mail.
A decorative box on your coffee table will make it easy to always find the remote controls. Cut down on piles of exploding papers. Create an accordion style file that holds all the pertinent information and your household appliances include purchase receipts as well as operation or manuals.
A family binder can also hold things that can easily get lost around the house, restaurant takeout menus, important numbers such as the babysitter, doctors or emergency contacts, business cards or medical prescriptions that need to be filled.
Go digital and scan important documents to store them electronically. Just be sure to regularly back up your files.
Start small. You can even clean the drawer during the commercial break while you are watching TV in the evening. Ship away one small task at a time and before you know it, your entire house will be wonderfully organized.
