Sherry Tyra: Now that the holidays are over, it's time to put away the decorations. I am going to give you some easy tips on how to store your holiday treasures, so they remain in great shape for years to come.

First and foremost, weed out the junk. Now is the time to get rid of all the old outdated decorations that you don't want anymore. Store ornaments in ornament storage boxes. Each ornament gets its own compartment keeping them separated and safe from breakage.

For extra protection, wrap delicate ornaments in tissue paper. This will keep them cushioned and protected. If the ornaments are cloth packets of silica gel from your local craft store are a great way to protect them from moisture. Craft stores get these packets by the hundreds and boxes are merchandise they sell and are usually happy to give you as many as you want.

Protect your strings of lights by wrapping them around paper towel rolls. Keeping them separated and neat will eliminate the frustration of tangled lights next year when you are ready to decorate.

Pack wreaths in plastic wreath boxes to keep them looking lush. Use large plastic totes for the remainder of your decorations. The plastic will protect your holiday decor from moisture and pests. Take some time to carefully store your holiday treasures. You will be happy you did so next year when it's time to decorate.
