Transcripts
Hi, I am Josh Dubois. We ve been talking about bartending basics. Now, I am going to show you the proper ways to pour bottle beer and also to pour Guinness.
Now, first always keep this in your back pocket and you are going to grab your beer, hopefully it hasn t been shaken up too much and the proper way to pour it, get the right head on beer is to let the beer kind of come down the side of the glass. It's not really that important what glass you use. It's more important that, you don t just pour straight into the glass because it's going to fizz up and it's going to give you a lot more head than you want.
So, you are going to want to start and just let it kind of float down the edge there and see right now there is pretty much no head on the beer. Once you get to the top, you can start evening it out and pouring it down. And it puts just a little bit of head on the beer in that way, you are not pouring it and overflowing out of the glass. Now, one trick that I used to use actually when I was bartending is say, if say you have a flat beer, the beer coming out of the top is flat or if you have a flat beer and you pour it out off a bottle. One thing that you can do is just take a beverage napkin that you have, crunch it up, swirl it around the top and that creates a little bit of head for you. So, that s just little trick there. So, that s the right way to pour a regular beer out of the bottle. Next, I am going to talk a little about Guinness because Guinness is a little bit misunderstood. This pouring method applies to pretty much any regular beer but Guinness is the one beer that s definitely really misunderstood. Guinness, you pour it just directly in, you can pour it out of the tap just directly in but the most important thing to realize with Guinness is that it should be set, it should set before it s served.
If you ve ever been in a bar and ordered a Guinness and gotten every other drink possibly that you ordered with the Guinness, if you received it before the Guinness, there is a reason because that bartender is good and you can see as it is going, the Guinness actually settles to the bottom of the cup. While it's settling, you don t ever want to serve it to somebody while it's doing this. You want to set it there and let it set.
You will see a good bartender will pull the top of the Guinness, he will pull it down and then they ll let it set there actually on the top for about three minutes and once you ve let it set for about three minutes, then you will be able to serve it to your guest and they will know that you are serving them the Guinness correctly.
Okay, now as you can see that Guinness is set here for about three minutes and this is how you want to serve the Guinness to your customer or to your friend at your party, you look like you really know what you are doing, when you serve it like this.
So, that s how you pour beer, most beers and also pour Guinness and next we are going to be showing you, one of the last little tricks, it will help you get a lot of tips and it's the ultimate hiccup cure.
