Vodka Drinks - How to Make a Cosmopolitan

Hi, I am Josh Dubois. Today, we are making vodka drinks and right now, I m going to show you how to make the Cosmopolitan or the Cosmo. Now, this is a really, really popular drink. If you are bartender, you are going to have this drink ordered a tonne and it has to be made right or else your customer is going to be able to tell because the color is going to be dull. Now, right when somebody orders a cosmo just as when somebody orders a martini, you are going to want to start putting ice into your up glass, or your martini glass and it s sometimes referred to as an up glass because people order vodka up or whisky up and that s all it means is being put in this glass. So, you are going to want to fill that up with ice and set it aside till you are ready for it at the end of the drink. Next, you are going to want to fill up your mixing cup with ice. Now, the specific amount of ice in your mixing cup isn t that important because you are going to be straining this drink and it is not going to be in the actual drink. So, next what you are going to want to do is you are going to want to pour in your vodka. Now, a Cosmopolitan uses two ounces of vodka or one shot glass worth of vodka and this is acquired by pouring it in with a pour count of four. So, one, two, three, four right in the glass. Next, you are going to be either using a triple sec or Cointreau. Now, these are pretty much interchangeable and cointreau is going to be used in a little bit of a higher end cosmopolitan. Triple sec is going to be used on your more economical end. So, you are just going to put one ounce of triple sec in and now, with these pours right here, these come already on the triple sec bottles, these are great for high volume bars and they pour it just like these pour. So, you just have to do a two count so, one, two, that s all the triple sec you need. Next, we are going to use two ounces of cranberry juice and we are actually going to measure this is in a cup because we want to make sure it looks right. It looks pink in the end. So, you are going to pour two ounces of cranberry juice into your shot glass and right into your mixer. Next, we are going to use just a dash of lime juice, that should do it, just a dash not too much. Put your shaker tin on the top of your cosmo and give it a really good shake. Now, you want to give this a really, really, really good shake because you want it to look frothy and foamy when you actually pour it out into the drink and it s a really pretty looking drink. So, you are going to take the ice, discard the ice out of your chilled glass and you are going to want to take this and you can either use a strainer or you can use the two glasses to strain it out into the drink as such. Now, there you go and you see it has got a nice froth from being shaken really well on top and you are going to want to garnish this with a lime. That is how you make a Cosmopolitan drink.
