Chris Bullock: Hi! I am Chris Bullock, expert Crappie Guide, here on beautiful Kerr Lake otherwise known as Buggs Island Reservoir. Today I want to talk to you about how to use a GPS to catch crappie. I use a GPS because sometimes I can't remember all of my landmarks. When you find a brush pile you can put a lake point in your GPS, most of them save them automatically. So if you forget your landmarks you have always got your lake points that will lead you right back to your brush pile.

The GPS that I prefer has a built-in sonar unit on the same screen. This enables you to see your lake point as you're coming up and also enables you to see the brush pile when you get your spot. As you were marking you should look at the sonar side. Normally crappie will be individual dots right above the brush piles, bait fish would probably clouds around the brush piles and predator fish will be larger arches around the brush piles.

As a tip you may want to mark your landmarks for the future, just in case something happens to your lake points or your GPS. And that's how you use a GPS to catch crappie.
