Hi, I am Nick Friedman, founder of College Hunks Hauling Junk, the junk removal specialist, and today, we are talking about organizing strategies and safe lifting techniques. First, we are going to start with how to safely lift an item off the ground, in case you are going to move it into storage or take it out to the trash, you always want to look at your safety considerations first, thats why we recommend a good pair of work gloves to protect your hands, and the next, most important thing is protecting your back. So, you always want to lift with your legs, you dont want to bend over to pick up an item, you want to bend down. So, what we are going to do is address this item. We are going to stand shoulder width apart with our feet; we are going to make sure the item is evenly balanced and flat on the ground. We are going to bend down at our legs, keeping our back straight, we are going to get our hands underneath it, not just our finger tips, pull the item close to you, and you are going to lift straight up, using your legs, not your back. So, thats how you safely lift an item off the ground. Next, we are going to talk about how to walk with a heavy item. Make sure you have your safety gloves to protect your hands, and like before, we want to use safe lifting techniques, keeping our feet shoulder width, and bending at our legs, we are going to go straight down, lift straight up, you are going to make sure your line of side is clear, walking slowly, taking little steps, and as you turn, you are going turn with your feet, not your back. And as you go to set the item down, you want to again, bend at your legs, not your back, set it straight down, and make sure to protect your hands, so as not to crush them. So, thats how you safely move an item and set it down. If you are going to be moving items farther than ten feet, we suggest you use a piece of equipment, like a dolly, or handcart, which is what we are going to talk about next.
