Bill Frishman: I am Bill with BGB Builders. Today our project is building a closet and what were doing right now is constructing our walls. This is my trusty assistant Genna. Shes going to be putting the studs in place for me to nail them. Now I have spread that top and bottom plates apart, keeping the bottom plate which is pressure treated at the bottom because its going to be in contact with the concrete floor and surfaces like that require that youve pressure treated material, for anything that touches them.

If you notice, I have also got my safety goggles ready because Im going to be using a nail gun as opposed to the twelve penny three inch nails that I showed you before which you could also use as well as a hammer and when I get to securing the partition to the floor, I am going to use the Hilty gun but you can also use cut nails. So lets go ahead and lay out our studs, Genna, if you want to put the studs in place you can just hand it to me. Okay, now we are also ready for our jacks. Now, if you remember we were using a two foot eight wide by six foot eight tall door. So six foot eight is eighty inches but I at three inches as opposed to the two for the width but I am going to go three inches taller from my height, so free cut the jacks at 81 and a half inches. This again allows for that bottom plate to get me up to 83. If you can hand me those two pieces, this piece right here will create my head, -- what ties my door header to the top plate as such and this piece will actually create the header.

So lets put the wall together now. What I would like to do is start at the corner and if you place your foot so that you are holding the two partitions together makes it easy to get a good fit. And I will just move on down the line here, now well do the top. Im going to use the top plate that I have marked, if you remember with my bottom plate. So we make sure our studs are straight. Now also check each one of these studs to make sure that theyre not bowed and if Genna if you can hand me that stud over there, you always want to check to make sure that you are framing material is straight.

So what I do is just look down the post with my eye and make sure I see that its straight which I have done for all these partitions. Were going to attach the top now, okay. Now lets go ahead and create our door. I am going to attach the jacks to the studs that they are next to. I try and nail about every twenty four inches in a staggered motion, top and bottom and then attach to the header.

And the last step is to attach our center brace. Now I need to make sure that that is truly in the center. So well take at 37 inches and we will 18-and-a-half and I will also mark that on my top plate. Now, the last step is going to be to attach our top layer, a second top plate, you press on that engine, now that wed built our wall, with the door we are going to build our second wall, which will be the same process as I just described but you wont need the door. You just place these studs on each out side corner, 24 inches on center in the middle of this span but youll have two studs on this outside corner. So that Ive got something to nail to, when I go ahead and attach the two walls. The next step in this process is going to be the standing the walls up and attach them to the two both the concrete slab and the ceiling above.
