Hi, I am Bill Frishman with BGB Builders. Today our project is building a closet. The last step in our closet, before we turn it over to the painter is to put the lock set on. Now, normally I actually do that after its painted but for this purpose I am going ahead and show you how to put it on right now. The first thing were going to do is put the latching mechanism in to the door.

Now, you do that with the latch facing, whats going to be the striker plate at the door. So basically this latch, just make sure this is facing the door. We go ahead and slide that in there and well put our screws in. Now depending on your application you may need to use a chisel to prepare this area, but if the door and the lock set they are normally aligned, that they use the same face plate and it will already be modest out for the face plate but you can use a chisel if you need to make the opening a little different.

The next thing were going to do is put the striker plate on. That follows the same principle if you need to adjust your opening for the modest opening, you can go ahead and do that. Our last step is to put the door knob in to the locking mechanism. We take the screws that they gave us and we tighten it to the door. Now, this is where you going to need a long screwdriver and you got to have a long screw driver because you cant get a screw gun close enough.

We are going to take a long screw driver and we are going to tighten these screws and we do the same on the other side. So our door knob is finished. I wanted to show you the finished product. You can see that weve finished all the coats of drywall mud, weve put our flat paint on our wall. We used our semi-glass paint on our trim and door. Weve got our finished product. Now I will need something to put inside our closet and something tells me that wont be a problem. So take care.
