Hello, we are Avi Career Training -- a Beauty, Cosmetology, Esthetics and Massage Therapy School in Great Falls, Virginia. We are happy to demonstrate how to do a facial treatment. The third step is to apply a mask. Before I begin, I want to emphasize how important it is to choose the right product for the skin type you are working with. There are plenty of facial masks available, each to serve a different purpose-- firming, hydrating, exfoliating, etc. I will begin by using a pore minimizing mask intended for exfoliation. Although you can either apply the mask with either your fingertips or a brush, I would recommend using a brush in order to evenly cover the entire face. Any beauty supply store will carry these brushes. Again, you will be starting from the neck and working your way up to the forehead and around the eyes. However, in case you are applying a mask onto your own face, it is best to start from your forehead and work your way down to your neck. Make sure you avoid the delicate eye area. You should leave the mask on for about ten minutes. I will now remove the mask. At the spa, we typically roll up a warm, moist hand towel; but, considering that you’re at home, perhaps you might find it easier to wash the mask off by splashing water onto your face. You want to place the hand towel over the neck area with the folded part facing upwards and cover the forehead. Then, gently press to loosen up the mask and place your hands in between the towel (using it as if it was a glove) in order to remove the mask. By now, this side of the towel will be covered up with product; so you will flip it over and use the same technique. Use the sponges to remove any excess product that you weren’t able to get using the towel. Once the skin has been cleansed, exfoliated, and a mask has been applied, you will tone the skin to close the pores.
