Adam Fogel: Hi, I am Adam Fogel, the Right to Vote Director at FairVote, a national non-partisan, non-profit organization based in Washington DC. Today, I am showing you how to register and vote in US elections.

Now, I will show you how to register and vote, if you are serving in the military or an overseas voter. The defense department runs the Federal Voting Assistance Program. That's the national organization responsible for insuring that overseas military voters have an opportunity to register and vote in US elections. You can find the Federal Voting Assistance Program on their website at fvap.gov.

Another organization that provides very good information for overseas and military voters and will walk you through all the steps that I am talking about today is the Overseas Vote Foundation. You can find them at overseasvotefoundation.org. To request an absentee ballot to vote in overseas or if you are a military voter, you have to do that through the Federal Post Card Application or FPCA. The FPCA serves as both, an absentee ballot request form and a voter registration form. You can find FPCAs at US consulates, US embassies, US corporations overseas, on military basis and also election organizations. You can also find the FPCA on the two websites that Ive listed above. Although, if you find them online, you'll have to print them, fill them out, and mail them-in with the required postage. If you find an FPCA on the cardboard stock at those places that I listed earlier, you don't have to worry about putting postage on that. Just like a voter registration form, it's important that you fill out the FPCA accurately and clearly and mail it in to your local board of elections. It's also important to note that you have to fill out an FPCA every single time that you move and that you have to send it in at least 60 days before the next election in order to vote. Finally make sure to inform your local board of elections when you return from overseas. That way they'll process your voter registration form and they will know not to send your ballot at your old address overseas, when the next election comes. That's how to vote if you are serving in the military or living overseas. Next well talk about what to expect on Election Day and some voting tips for when you get to your precinct.
