Emily: Hi I am Emily at Masters Costumes here in Arlington, Virginia and I am showing you how to make a cat face. Right now we have applied all of the basic manipulations of the skull structure to create a cat-face and now we are ready to do our effects.

Since we have used a cream makeup and this is not going to dry, anytime Heather touches it, it s going to come off, so, we really want to set it with the powder. I like to do it before I start the effects makeup because the effects are going to be all about contrast and all about localized application and we don t want them to blend into the base on accident.

So, we are just going to go ahead and powder the base, I like to use a really localized technique. You can go with a great big powder puff which is really fun. But, unless you want to get powder everywhere, then I like to do really localized but all over.

Just be nice and generous with the powder; probably use a towel on your outfit, if you are already in your costume, if not then an old T-shirt is fine and that gives you the opportunity to work in sections, powder everywhere and we are just going to continue this technique all over the face.

Now, this is going to allow you to do your effects with either a water based makeup which is what I am going to do or I am to continue with the cream based makeup, the cream is really where you get into, maybe accidentally blending it with the base. So, if you are doing cream effects for the fur or the stripes or the spots whatever you intend to do with your cat face, then powdering after this step is dire. Now, what I am using is a cosmetic powder. You want to breathe too much of that in, but this is definitely safer to use than baby powder, which is not safe to breathe and what so ever. You don t want to get too much of that in your lungs, using a nice cosmetic based powder or a corn-starch would work really well.

But, any place where you can get these prosthetics and cosmetic supplies, you are going to be able to get a nice effective cosmetic powder, you want it to be a translucent powder, something that has no color to it, unless you are a black cat, than they have black powders that will keep your base very rich.

You don t want to make that strong color dull by putting a white powder over top of it and the translucent will work fine. But, they do offer a black powder, if you are going to be doing a Panther face.

But, I am going to show you how to achieve a lot of contrast and effects with that too, so, you are not on one color. The last thing you want to do is just be all one color, that s going to be really kind of ineffective for your costume and that s really what I am showing you today is, how to get the most out of the products, that you probably can get at any Halloween store around you.

Okay, that s how you set the makeup. Next we are going to do the fine detail and we are going to clean Heather up a bit.
