When someone perceives me as being negative, how can I change their mind?

Steven Gaffney: Well, first question is, are you being negative? And chances are if other people are perceiving as being negative, we really are and awareness is the first key to changing something. Then you think, okay what do I do? Well one thing that can really help is whenever we are offering a criticism or complaint and you are worried that somebody might perceive this as negative, offer a potential solution. I have found that a lot of people at work and then people in life, who are perceived as negative, it's because they just complain, they don't offer a solution, they don't come to the table with an idea and you might be thinking, but they won't accept my idea. Well, the key thing is at least suggest it. Come to the table if you are going to complain about something, if you are going bellyache about something make sure that you are coming to the table with at least a potential solution, a potential idea and that's one way how to avoid somebody perceiving us as negative.
