Butch Arbin: Hi! I am Butch Arbin. I am captain of the Ocean City, Maryland, Beach Patrol. I have worked for the beach patrol for the last 36 years. I started at 15 years old as a rookie. I have worked my way up through the ranks where now, I had this organization. As a captain of this Ocean City Beach Patrol, I have 200 employees, a $2.
5 million budget for one of the largest beach patrols in the world. We guard 10.
5miles of guarded beach. We rescue between 2 to 4 thousand individuals a year from rip currents. We also return up to 2000 lost and found individuals. Well, I am not here in the Ocean City, I am an educator. I have got my both undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Maryland, College Park. I have a lot of experience with this job, and I want to share some of the experience with you today. In sharing that experience, I hope that you too can have a safe and enjoyable day at the beach. We will be talking about such topics as how to apply, when to apply sunscreen, sun glasses, how to choose sunglasses, what you should bring to the beech? Medications, water. Also, we are going to talk about what you should not bring to the beech and very importantly, we want to talk about what you leave at the beech. The only thing, we want you to leave at the beech are your foot prints, take your trash with you. Now, let s go ahead and get started.

Butch Arbin was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He Graduated from Parkville Senior High School. While at Parkville, Butch participated in Band, Cross Country, indoor and outdoor track. At the young age of 15, while still attending high school, Butch took and passed the Ocean City Beach Patrol test.
