Speaker: How big of a diamond do I need to buy?
Ronnie Mervis: Well, size counts, what can I tell you, size counts? Most people want the biggest diamond they can get for the money and so I would say go for one that fits a big look. But don t go for size at the expensive quality.
There are many different factors which come into the diamond. You want a big size of course, you want a high color, you want a good clarity and most important to all of those, you want one that s cut perfectly so that you get the maximum brilliance out of it. And size is just one of the four factors, of the four Cs, which stand for Carat weight, Color, Clarity and Cut. Carat weight really relates to the size and it s just one of the four. Go for bigger rather than smaller, but don t go for bigger at the expensive make and a poor quality.
In fact, I d like to go the other way around. I d like to say that cut is the most important because cut is what gives you the brilliance. I d like to see a fine color because you can see the difference between good color and bad color. Clarity is not that bigger deal, because you can not see it, and size is important so we get as big as we can, keeping the other factors in balance and within the budget range. I said before the budget shouldn t be main consideration. So, go for the factors as I say it, cut, color, clarity as big as you can, and then look at the number and if it s within the reach, go for it, but I don t think it s a good idea for guys to come in and be too taken up with size before we even get started.
Just go for diamond, that looks good, feels nice and which is going to make the statement on her finger. You don t need to blow the world away, and you don t want one so small that you can t see it. There isn t really hard and fast answers, just be flexible, go with the blows, and look it a couple. I don t think, it s a good idea to say specifically show me one of exactly the size. Ask your jeweler, show me your range, show me one in this size, show me one in that size, show me one in the next size, like the daddy bear, mummy bear and the baby bear, see a whole bunch of them and then find the one that s just right.
