Indian Recipes - How to Make Parathas

Ingredients

Whole wheat flour
Water
Oil
A pinch of salt

Instructions

1. Blend the flour and water together with a pinch of salt and knead the dough. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes.

2. Make a ball of dough and roll it with a rolling pin into a 6-8 inch disk. Apply a little oil and dust it with flour. Make a cut and start rolling it into a cone. Once the cone is formed, hold it from the top, hold the bottom in your other palm and press it down. Push it down, add a little flour and set it to rest for a few minutes.

3. Roll the dough again, nice and thin and place it on a griddle at medium heat. Flip it over and remove it when both sides are lightly browned.

4. Smear the paratha with oil, plate and serve.

Hi, my name is Bhasin and this is my wife Nicky, we are from the Bombay Curry Company an Indian Restaurant to Alexandria. We also are partners at the Delhi Club, another Indian Restaurant in Clarendon in Arlington, Virginia. Today we are going to show you how to make parathas. A paratha is an Indian flatbread. It can be plain multilayered or it can be stuffed. Today, we are going to show you how to make a multilayered paratha and for that we are going to need some whole wheat flour, some water, some more whole wheat flour for dusting, a little bit of oil and a pinch of salt if you like.

A rolling pin will come in handy in case you are going to roll the paratha and in the next step we are going to cover, how to make the dough.
