Hi, I am Harry Watters and we are continuing on. Now, that we have the trombone slide cleaned and lubricated, we are going to talk about producing a sound on the trombone. First of all, I encourage all beginning trombonists to learn how to buzz on their mouthpiece with their lips. I know, I know, it sounds kind of like a duck, but it is going to sound a lot better once we put this into the trombone. Again, so buzz on that mouthpiece, insert the mouthpiece into the trombone and think straight columns of air. I am going to play a concert B flat.
Next, we are going to talk about changing notes on a trombone. I am going to go up by tightening my lips and then I am going to go back down by loosening my mouth.
Next, we are going to talk about changing notes on a trombone by moving the slide but before we do that I need to talk to you about the positions on a trombone. There are seven positions on a Tenor trombone. One, two, three, four which is down by the bell, five, six, seven and for most beginners that s as far as they can move their arms. Believe me, it s a long stretch. So, what I am going to do is play an F-major scale by changing the positions on the trombone and also by adjusting, by tightening and loosening my lips. You will hear it in just a second.
On the next segment, we are going to talk about playing louder and softer on a trombone.

my granddaughter is starting to play the trombone this year in 6th grade band and at home,we bought a used Bach. She is small for her age and will need an extension. Kayla also has cerebral palsy on her right side and the Tbone will be great for stretching her arm. she is very determined to play the Tbone and as with everything else she sets out to do I think she will do well...you should see her swim.any helpful hints that you could give her would be greatly appreciated..she watches your video
