Host: How do I know when to breakup with someone?

Gloria MacDonald: So let's say, you have been dating somebody for sometime now, let's say it has been three months or more and the question is how do you know if you should breakup with someone?

I think a lot of us are guilty of carrying on a relationship for too long. We try to make it work, we work at it, we try to compromise, we think we are going to change the other person, that's particularly a big problem with women. We think we are going to change the man, we think we are going to make him better or we are going to make him different, we are going to correct his bad habits or whatever, all those things are big danger zones. Frankly, the beginning stages of a relationship should be the most wonderful stages. They should be the easiest stage and if you are going through all kinds of ups and downs, if you are working at the relationship and the relationship is a struggle, I believe that this is not the relationship of your dreams and that it is time to get out. You shouldn't have to - any relationship overtime is going to take work. No relationship is going to have nothing but bliss and harmony over 25 years, but those initial three months, six months, the first year of a relationship should be the easiest. They should be the most fun, they should be the most joyous and if you are not experiencing it, it is time to get out.
