Host: How can I change my beliefs?

Will Maney: Changing beliefs is a very, very complicated thing or so it appears. Most of us don t go deeply enough into the process of how beliefs are structured. So, here is something -- first we will have to begin with, what are my core beliefs? Sometimes I think about planning a little game with, well let see what Johnny believes, let see what you believe. We think it is some kind of magical, mythical experience but all we do is we would then report back to you, what the events and the circumstances are in your life, those are your beliefs.

So, is there a struggle, I know all about struggle, part of the thing with losing one arm was learning how to be patient and learning how to cope with struggle, that was a bad thought, how about this one, a rusty nail in the eye, Oh, bad thought. So what happens now is, is that mind continuously thinks thoughts, no big deal. Those thoughts form clusters and they get filtered to through core beliefs.

Now, our core beliefs in a certain point in the journey, they become fixed or so what seems and I suspect that fair amount of our world is structured around that the whole idea of Madison Avenue and advertisement, they try to trigger those core beliefs. So, changing those beliefs has to do with witnessing them, observing them and this something you have to memorize, you have got to be willing to witness and observe without judgment and then the process that you go through is a journal, a notebook and you just jot down some of the circumstances later on you begin to try to figure out, what was I thinking and that is the fun thing, honey what were you thinking? Or the persons says, I do not know what I was thinking. We ll say, well actually we do, because there is a tickle in your hand and you really need to give you self permission this is so essential. You have got to give yourself permission for it may be not already having got that right. That is complicated to say that way, well let s try it again. You got to be willing to give you self permission to be okay with the fact that may be you do not have it alright yet, because what happens is we become defensive.

The moment I become defensive, there is no more communication and remember the entire process that we are talking about is activating and then cultivating, that inner voice of guidance or that intuition.
