I have been a professional photographer for over twelve years. Since the ninth grade, the support of friends, family, and mentors opened a door to a different world, one behind a lens. My first inspiration was Jerry Uelsmann. Uelsmann is a photo-surrealist from the 60’s before the advent of digital art. He used multiple enlargers, hours of darkroom time, and perfected a unique style. His innovation and mastery of technique still drive me today. I learned my craft at The School of Visual Arts in New York City, where I studied with the finest photographers and printers in the world. Through Robert Frank, Anne Leibovitz, and many other established photographers and organizations, I learned the many factors that comprise a perfect photograph; subject, lighting, the finished print, and of course the person behind it all. In July of 2002 I ventured on my own, and started Ashton Imaging Inc. With pride, I bring every photograph to life, and am able to send clients home with much more than a print; I present my clients with a story and an idea or value they never noticed. I bring my photographs and your photographs together and preserve the chronicles of your life.

Host: What kind of software should I use?
Jenny Berman: As far as software goes, there are so many software options; you really just don t want to get bogged down in buying useless amounts of software. I see so many people come to me and say, I just spend $600 on this program and I don t know how to use it, it s not really what I want. The best advice I can give is download the trial versions.

Every software manufacture gives you a 30 day trial; it s the best thing in the world. I tried everything before I buy this, especially if I am investing more than $400 in a piece of equipment. There are some wonderful editing programs out there that will help you rotate all at once once, color correct, if you have shot something at the wrong weight balance, all of a sudden you can just press one button and everything is fixed. There are great software out there where you can remove heads and get really involved into switching faces in, loose that extra ten pounds that you know you can t loose, oh I hear it all. Switching babies, this isn t the wrong twin, but we can do that all with software and if that s your forte, there are great classes out there, teching great books they go with every single software program you can buy.
