Host: What options does a student have when they are waitlisted by a college?

Jerome Cole: Being waitlisted by a college means basically, that you have been, your file has been reviewed and they like you, they would like to find a slot for you, it is just they don t have the space. So, they have placed you on this waitlist if you will. Different schools have different policies regarding their waitlist. Some schools take off a lot of kids from the waitlist and admit them, some schools take off very few.

So, you as a student, if you are waitlisted to a particular college or university, the very first thing that you want to do is contact the school, probably via e-mail or telephone call, whatever is easiest and most convenient for you to do the following. One, you want to convey to them that you are still very interested in the university and that you would like to, in that you would like to be admitted.

So, that s the first thing that you want to do is convey interest. The second thing is to ask them, what is the policy, how many students do you traditionally take off that list, what should I be doing to enhance my chances of being admitted? Colleges get those questions all the time from kids on the waitlist and you want to figure out what the policy is, so that you can respond accordingly and be removed from the waitlist and be admitted. Kids do get admitted off the waitlist, believe it or not.
