Host: What is a broker?

David Morotta: A broker is someone who makes stock trades for you. So, you may want to buy a certain stock and you give them the order and they go and they execute that order on the New York Stock Exchange and they put the shares of that stock back into your account. So, you need a broker in order to trade on the stock exchanges, and most custodians will also provide brokered services for you to buying and sell stocks.
