Host: What is a personal brand?

Louise Kursmark: A personal brand is an interesting concept that is emerging in the field of career management. Just as we have brands for corporations and for products, we now have brands for individuals. What that means is your brand is what is unique about you? Who are you as distinct from anybody else? What makes you different? What unique value do you promise to that employer? A lot of personality has to go into expressing your personal brand in your resume. You are not going to be the same as the next person who sits across the hall from you now, who does a similar job. What is it about you that makes you different? As we grow into the concept of career management, personal brand development and brand management becomes just as important. As I said, it's an emerging concept. You will find lots of examples of great brands, brand development, books on brand development, morphing over into the career field. It's something that you as a forward thinking career professional will want to be thinking about, so that you can incorporate your brand message into your resume.
