Host: In what way can I manage people by prioritizing my time?

Sean McArdle: The management of people is an interesting one. There are several things to keep in mind. You have objectives, your group has objectives and you have been put in charge of managing those objectives through other people. So, time management plays a very important role.

The first thing you have to do is decide who is important to me of the people I manage and to what degree do I need to communicate with them, follow up with them to make sure that they obtain their objectives in meaningful time? So, we start with the assignment of tasks with timelines and say, Here is what I would like you to do, here is when I like you to get it done. Then, we actually go to our calendars, mark the person s name, how often we need to follow up with them between the time we ask them for something and the time we expect them to be finished. My suggestion is you always have inner imparts where you check on a person s progress so that they know you are really, truly, keenly interested in the use of their time.

Now, here is what will occur. Most managers who use this method of time management in getting objectives accomplished find that there are some people who are more effective than others. The ones who are more effective then you can actually give less time to, so that you can invest that time then in the people who need more management time from you.
