Hi, I am Kathy Duke, I teach prenatal yoga at the Health Advantage Yoga Center in Herndon, Virginia. Today, we are doing prenatal yoga.
Remember to consult with your doctor or healthcare practitioner before starting yoga or any other form of exercise.
Today, we are going to learn tree pose. Use a chair for balance if you prefer. We will start in mountain pose. With the heels aligned just below the hip, spine lifted, let your weight shift to your right leg and bend your left knee letting your left foot rest on your right inner thigh, anywhere that you like. Then, bring the palms together in front of your heart, take a deep breath, draw everything in towards your center, and on an inhale, let the arms lift up, opening the hips and the chest.
On an exhale, release the arms and the legs. Come back to mountain pose for a breath. Feel your weight shifting to the left leg letting the right knee bend. On an inhale, lift your right foot resting it anywhere on the inner thigh that you like. Take the arms overhead, feeling your breath moving down into the belly and pressing your standing leg into the floor.
On an exhale, release the arms down coming back to mountain pose. And thats how we do tree pose. Next, I am going to show you how to do squats.
