Host: How can parents determine whether their child is mature enough for kindergarten?

Dr. Rene Hackney: The Nation PTA recommends that you consider several things to decide if your child is ready for kindergarten. They suggest looking at the maturity of the child, at the size of the child. They also suggest looking at their curiosity or their interest in learning. Talking to the pediatrician or the preschool teacher is the good way to determine if they are ready for going onto kindergartner. The last thing that they say to look for is, considering what other families in your area do. If children are being held back often that may impact or if they are being put a head often that may impact your decision.
