Dr. Rene Hackney: It is important for children to learn to follow directions for many reasons, one, when they get to school age and they are often school system, they are going to be many directions through out the day and keep up with class room and to get their work done there, they are going to need to able to follow those directions and follow them rather independently.

It is also important for safety, if you are giving your child instructions as you get out of the car in a parking lot, it is important for them to follow those directions, so that they can be safe while they are with you.
