Host: What is going to happen if these trends continue?
Dr. William McCarthy: We have seen a dramatic increase, especially from the 1960s, to the 1970s, to the 1980s and even from 1991 until the year 2005, there has been a 60% increase in the incidence of excess weight and obesity. Now if we carry these trends out a few more years, what are we going to see.
By 2040, if the current rate continues, virtually 100% of the population will be overweight. Over 60% of the population will be frankly obese and as we have discussed before, we are going to see a great increase in the complications medically and also many disabilities as a result of this, unless something is done.
