Kayak - Spray Skirt
Transcripts
Mike Aronoff with Canoe, Kayak and Paddle Company. Let's talk for a minute about spray skirts. This is a spray skirt, I want to preface everything by saying, please dont attach one to yourself and to the kayak unless you have had training to get them off. We refer to that as Wet Exit Training. All paddling schools, all professional instructors, both teach you a method that makes it easy to get out of the kayak. Let's presume that youve had that wet exit training because it is a part of kayaking.
This is the piece of gear that makes you one with the boat. It keeps water -- keep you in the boat to some extent, which might be the bad news; it keeps water from waves, rain, anything else out of the boat, which is of course the good news. You could put this on two ways; I am going to do it by stepping into it and pulling it up, like a pair of pants. The waist section is here. So this is going to be just couple of inches below my bellybutton with the top of the skirt up here. This is going to be around my hips. This is the front of the skirt; the front of the skirt has got one very distinct feature called a grab loop - thats always in the front; the long part of the skirt is always in the front. And thats it for putting on your spray skirt. bad news; it keeps water from waves, rain, anything else out of the boat, which is of course the good news.
