Host: How long should I devote to each interview?

Jaclyn Gobuluk: You want to give yourself plenty of time to interview each candidate. What that means is the interview could take anywhere between 30 minutes to two hours. You are going to ask the nanny a series of questions that tell her what you are looking for. You only want to see how the nanny answers that. Some nannies will answer it short, some nannies will go into elaborate details for each answer to the questions that you have asked, but you want to give yourself plenty of time.

You will also realize that when you meet the nanny candidate there maybe a connection there right from the start, from the first question that she answers there could be a connection. If there is a connection during the interview process before or after the questions, you probably are going to spend more time with that candidate because you are going to get to know that candidate a little bit more closely. Find out a little bit more about that person maybe give them a tour around the house, have them interact with the child. So, there will be a connection there. If you do not feel that connection, trust your good instinct and move on. The interview can be conducted in a very short period of time. Please give yourself plenty of time to interview that candidate and if you are still not sure, have that candidate for a second interview that is a very important step and also the interview process.

So, interviews can take anywhere between 30 minutes to two hours and if the candidate is of very good potential, fit for your family, please have the candidate come back for a second interview. You can go over additional questions asked and have them interact with the children for a longer period of time.
