Host: What does it mean that a person s spirituality has been affected by drinking?

Judith W. Cousins: When a person s spirituality is affected by drinking, what one notices, either loved ones or the person themselves, they begin to notice that their values are beginning to change and what was really important to them, either their goals in life or their moral values, their values about family, those relationships begins to change. When the drinking becomes more important than all of those things, then that becomes a spiritual issue. People also can become not always, but also can become more cynical and more depressed when they drink and that s going to affect their sense of belief in a higher power or belief in God or belief in the goodness of other people.
