Hi, I am Patsieann Misiti with the Alexandria Fire Department in Alexandria, Virginia. We are talking about holiday safety and winter preparedness. Now, let's talk about your holiday lights.
Remember to use indoor lights indoors and outdoor lights outdoors. Look for the UL label on light strands and extension cords. The green label means lights can be used indoor. The red label means light can be used in or outdoor.
Make sure to discard light that have been cracked, broken, have bad sockets or it been preyed or have loose wires or loose connections. Follow the manufacturer s guidelines for stringing lights together. As a general rule, no more than three light strands should be strung together. Extension cords should be placed against the wall to prevent tripping hazards. Never use cords under rug and be careful not to overload an extension cord for a wall receptacle.
Next, we are going to talk about tree ornaments.
