Host: Is there a relationship between sleep depravation and poor health?

Jeannette Bessinger: Yes there is. You need sleep in night to restore your body s basic energy level. You need it to operate so that your immune system operates at an optimal level and sleeping enough improves your basic energy level and your productivity level.

The most common unfortunate result of sleep depravations is accidents from falling asleep behind the wheel. There have been some significant studies linking sleep depravation. By that I mean less than six hours per night, with an increased risk for obesity and type II diabetes and just on a very practical level if your body is tired all the time, it's going to be reaching for simple source of nourishment throughout the day which probably means around four O clock, you are going to go for the sugar or go for the coffee, not good for your weight.
