Host: Why do people enjoy smoking?

Eletta Hansen: Smoking is an addiction. Remember, I earlier said that nicotine in cigarettes is an addiction. People smoke because they feel calm, satisfied, smokers often tell me they feel more alert, they can concentrate better, because again, once they smoke the nicotine is inhaled, it is sent to the lung, quickly absorbed into the blood stream and reaches the brain in about seven seconds, giving you the sense of pleasure. What smokers do not realize is at the same time they are experiencing the pleasure their body is also undergoing some changes, your blood pressure increases, your heart rate increases, so it is actually a false sense of feeling good to smoke.
