Host: Will I still be addicted to nicotine after I quit smoking?

Eletta Hansen: As a smoker your brain is primed for nicotine, the nicotine receptors have a memory. Even one puff can begin the activation process and cause you to want to smoke more and more until you are back in your comfort zone. It is particularly important that you be vigilant about the triggers, being around other people who smoke, being in smoke filled places.

Researchers are currently studying what happens to the brain after we quit smoking. Some believe that the receptors eventually disappear but for now our advice is to avoid even a puff because one puff can make a difference.
