Andy Segal: Hi, I am Andy Segal, this is one of my own inventions, it s the speed shot. I came up with that a few years ago for an ESPN trick shot competition. We have all the balls lined up, the 8-ball is going to be struck first into that corner pocket. But as you know in 8-ball, you have to make your solids before you make the 8. So as the 8 ball is rolling, I am going to quickly shoot the 1 through 6 in order and make them in that pocket before the 8 gets there, kind of like that. Now, let me explain to you briefly, how to set up that shot and how to practice that shot. The set up is quite simple, you just lay your stick right along this first diamond, you put the 8-ball at the side pocket, the 1-ball at the third diamond and then you just go 2,3,4,5,6 and you want to make sure there is enough of a gap between the balls, so you have a clear shot at the pocket with each ball. Now, when you are first practicing this shot, you don t want to shoot off stick, its little too difficult. So what I would recommend is only shoot it with the 2-ball. So what you do is you shoot the 8-ball and then you shoot the 1 and the 2. Now, you notice that I hit the 8-ball lot harder, that s normally what happens the first time someone shoots this shot is you shoot the 8-ball way too hard. So what you can do is you can practice just rolling the 8-ball, you want the 8-ball to just barely get to the pocket and barely roll in, like that. As you get good shooting with 2 balls, you add a third and keep in mind, you want to try and hit the 8-ball as soft as possible.

Okay, that was perfect speed on the 8-ball, as you get through with 3, you add 4, you add 5 and you add 6. Now one other tip that I can give you when shooting this shot, sometimes when you are watching the trick shots on TV, you may see the players shooting the balls in like this. Okay, that s one way to do it, but I prefer not to do it that way, I prefer to shoot the ball softly and only have my stick over a little bit, that makes me able to hit the ball quicker, instead of going long going back, long back, I just go like this. So when I am shooting the 4, 5 and the 6, you shoot it like this.

You are still hitting it with the same speed, you are just not rolling it there, you are hitting it quickly because you are not taking the time for the cue stick to go all the way up and all the way back. So those were the tips that I can give you for the speed shot. Speed shots are a lot of fun you can shoot them in any pocket you want. You can even move them closer to the pocket to make it a little more difficult, or you can move them further away from the pocket to make them a little easier. Now, the next shot that s coming up is one of my own inventions and it s one of my favorite shots, it s the juggling shot with all 15 balls and something special.
