Pool Jump Shots - 9 Ball in the Corner Pocket

Andy Segal: Hi, I am Andy Segal, and today we are doing some great jump shots, this is the fourth and final jump shot and probably the most difficult one in this series. We have the cue ball near the corner pocket, then we have a row of seven balls here. So first ball is this diamond, the last ball is this diamond, and they are spaced out evenly, near about an inch, half an inch to an inch of the cushion in a straight line, then we have 1 and the 9 sitting here by the side pocket. We are going to try and jump the cue ball over the entire line of balls, hit the 1 and 9. The 1 will go in a side, the 9 will go in a corner. Now, we are going to use the principle of the jump shot that we discussed in the last segment. We are going to shoot down on the cue ball right into the center and propel it up and over the line of balls. Now, the reason why this shot is a lot more difficult is because not only do we have to jump over the balls which is hard enough but we have to jump a great distance and we have to land directly on the 1. If we land over the 1 you are going to miss the ball completely and if you jump too soon, it s going to jump over the balls. You have to time the jump precisely so the cue ball lands directly on the 1. If you don t do that this shot will not work, so we have to have a jump shot, we have to have distance and we have to have distance accuracy, which is very difficult.

So anyway, we have the cue ball back here, by the corner pocket and the 1 and the 9 are not quite lined up straight in, they are angled this way slightly. If you remember, from one of the previous videos, when you hit the ball on the right side, the weight pushes the 9-ball to the left. So we have to have the 9-ball lined up for here, so when the cue ball hits the 1-ball here, it pushes the 9 to the left and throws it into the pocket. Let s give it a shot and see what happens, kind of like that.

Now like I said that s a very difficult jump shot and I wouldn t expect any one to get it on the first try. But if you try and start like this, with the cue ball here and jump over the ball and as you get used to that, keep adding a ball and keeping adding a ball and so you finally get down to where this ball, at this time and the cue ball back here, you will work your way up to the distance.
