Host: Will I have to work in prison?

Ed Bales: Most people have to work when they go to prison. If you are an elder inmate or if you have a medical condition you maybe excused from work temporarily or permanently depending on your condition but most people have assignments that range from two hours to seven hours during the day, five days per week. Work assignments can be in custodial, kitchen. They could be in a work environment such as electrical shop, plumbing shop. Depending on your skills, your counselor will try to match you in the particular job. Salary ranges range anywhere from usually 15 cents up to maybe a $50 an hour.
