Host: Is it a good idea for my child to participate in summer classes or transition workshops?
Andrew Battaile: Summer school and transition workshops aren't always remedial. It is not necessary for students who didn't have great grades. These can also be a way for your son or your daughter to be more comfortable at a new school. If it is a summer program, I would encourage them to do it if you have the time and you can afford it. These programs allow your son or your daughter to become comfortable with the campus, to learn the area, to meet friends before the first day of school and also to meet teachers and learn teaching styles.
