Host: How deep should I go into prayer?

Rev. Joseph McCloskey: My image of how deep into prayer I should go is the diving board and people who get into prayer are really -- they feel sometimes like they are on a high diving board and they are scared to let themselves go. My image of myself from that high diving board is my fear to make a belly flop because a belly flop could sting something awful on a high diving board. I would love my prayer to be just one dive but it is somewhere in between I am afraid. But most people in their prayers skim the surface of Gods love. All of these waves of Gods love are ruling over us. Sometimes I love to -- if I was at the ocean I would love to be able to ride a wave and I am afraid that sometime we have ride waves that's how we get trapped in one particular form of prayer. Prayer is really how deep I am willing to go and if I can get so deep that I can no longer see the surface of the prayer, I am touching the inner chamber of my heart where God dwells and that is really what we are after, to find the very core of our being in God. So you can never go too deep and you never finish because the road of prayer is really a dive into an emptiness that is so big that it is big enough for God.
