Making the perfect pie crust is easy and costs just pennies. First, in a food processor add one cup of flour, two teaspoons of sugar and a quarter teaspoon of salt. Pulse for about two seconds to mix all the dry ingredients together. Next, add a quarter cup of butter that is well chilled and a tablespoon of well chilled shortening. Pulse three to four times for two to three seconds each time until it's crumbly. Then, in a small bowl blend one egg yolk and two tablespoons of water. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the flour mixture and pulse two to four times for two to three seconds each time until the mixture pulls away from the sides of the bowl and clings together.

Now, remove the dough, cover and chill for half an hour. Make sure you flour your work surface and rolling pin when working the dough. Roll it out to your desired size and use your rolling pin to transfer the dough to the pie plate. Then decorate the edge as you like. Make your very own perfect pie crust this year. The warming fragrance that walks from your oven, priceless.
