Host: How should I approach the teacher if my child says they hate school? Lee Dorman: If your child comes home and consistently tells you that they hate school, there is a problem. School is supposed to be a wonderful learning experience and supposed to be fun most of the time, and student should want to go to school.
If your student comes home day after day and complains about the school and complains that they hate things, there is probably something else going on. There may actually be some bullying occurring, the child may not be comfortable in the class, they may think the work is too hard, or they are confused. There are all kinds of reasons why student would tell you or your child will tell you, I hate school. Kids shouldn't hate school, and if your child is saying that to you, that's a signal that something else is going on and you really do need to call their teacher and tell the teacher what's going on and ask for a conference again so that you and the teacher can problem solve for the student. No child should go home and go to school everyday and hate what they do.
