Host: What should I expect from a parent-teacher conference?

Lee Dorman: You should expect a parent teacher conference to be organized first of all and if the parent is called by the teacher generally, the teacher will tell you what the subject or the topic of the conference is going to be. It maybe that your student is having difficulty in my class, or is not getting their homework turned in and I would like to talk with you. In which case, you should come in and ask some of the questions about well, how does my child know what the assignment is? Is it written in some place? Is there some way that my child can get the information at night? You should ask those kinds of questions of the teacher. Most teachers will tell kids they get a study buddy. Somebody's name, somebody's number in every class, they can call at night if they get confused and do not know what is going on. As a parent, if you call the conference you need to let the teacher know what you are coming in for. If you let the teacher know what you are coming in for, the teacher can be prepared with grades, with papers, with copies of the content so that they will be able to explain you exactly what is going on. !
