    Host: What information should be discussed in a conference?

    Lee Dorman: Information discussed at a conference really is of a couple of different types. As I said, you could have introductory conferences where you're looking for family information, and you as a parent can ask questions about the teacher as well.

    There is also a time when you and the teacher are problem solving, you may have a student who is having difficulty in the class or isn't happy or something is going on, and that's the time for you and the teacher to problem solve together. It's a good idea to use words like we, or how can we solve this problem, or what can we do. It's a whole lot easier for teacher to answer a question than it is for them to deal with a statement that you might have made. So there are different ways to get information from a teacher and there are different ways to get information as a parent.
