Host: How can I make sure communication is clear between the teacher and I? Lee Dorman: You really should make sure that communication between you and the teacher is very clear. A good time to do this is during that parent conference at the beginning of the year.

Back-to-school night is not a good time to try and have a conference with a teacher about your child because back-to-school night is when all the parents are there, and if you are an elementary school teacher, it's probably between 25 and 30 sets of parents. In middle school and high school it's more like 130 sets. So back-to-school night is not a good time, but at back-to-school night, if you listen carefully, your teachers will tell you the ways that you can communicate with them, the ways that you can get in touch with them, and the things that you need to know.
