Speaker: Is it necessary to follow-up after an interview?

Jerome Cole: I think at a minimum you want to acknowledge the person who interviewed you; go for short note, it could be an email, it could be a short thank you card. You don't want to go overboard, but just something that says, hey, thank you for the time; I appreciate the opportunity to come and talk to you about myself and about your school.

If you are asked the question during the course of the interview and you are not able to fully respond to that question, you might want to use a follow-up to go back and say, hey, I remember that particular question that you asked me, I wasn't able to give you a complete answer; here is my follow-up to that. So that kind of short communication with whoever it is that conducted the interview is probably appropriate, but nothing more than that.
