Host: Why is going to the dentist is important?

Kathy Reily: People with diabetes will have more dental problem than persons without diabetes. When the blood sugar is elevated there is also more sugar in the saliva and that sugar in the saliva attracts bacteria and the bacteria then start to affect the gums and the tooth. So, with diabetes we see more gum disease and if that's not treated then we see many more problems with the teeth. So, it is important if you have diabetes to make your two times a year trip to the dentist to have your cleanings and checkups just to make sure that everything is going okay.
