Speaker: Should I test my blood sugar before or after I exercise?

Kathy Reily: We generally recommend that if you are starting to exercise that you check your blood sugar before you exercise and then again after the exercise with no food in between and this checking your sugar before and after the exercise will give you an idea of how much your blood sugar is lowered with that particular exercise. There is just one word of caution, if you are exercising at a high intensity where you maybe sweating profusely, you know that it's high intensity, we generally say, wait about a half-an-hour or an hour after the exercise and you will have a more valid blood sugar number for an after exercise reading.
