Host: How is diabetes diagnosed?

Kathy Reily: Diabetes is diagnosed by a blood test that is done at the lab and it is an eight hour fast with water only. If the blood sugar is 126 or above on two separate occasions then type 2 diabetes or even type 1 diabetes would be diagnosed. If the lab work comes back with the blood sugar between 100-125 then that is pre-diabetes as a diagnosis. If the fasting blood sugar is 99 or below that is considered normal.
